A quick presentation of the White House

I have chosen to present to you the White House.
It is located in Washington DC, on Pennsylvania Avenue.
It was originally designed by James Oban and the extensions were made by Benjamin Henry Lathrobe.
The construction started in 1792 and was completed in 1800.
The White House is rectangular with two porticos, one facing the north and one facing the south, each with a colonnade.
The house is 55,000 square feet (=5,100 square meters).
It’s made of Aquia Creek Sandstone.
In the White House, there are six stories (including three basements),132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, eight staircases and three elevators.
The first floor is the “state floor” and the second floor is residential. Both façades face a lawn with a fountain but the south lawn is much bigger.
Around the house there’s also a swimming pool, a tennis court, a bowling alley, a movie theater, a jogging track and a putting green.
The White House has been the US president’s house since 1800. It’s both the presidential residence and the president’s principal workplace.
I chose this house because it’s an iconic building of the USA. I like it because it’s the President’s house and I wanted to know more about it. I also like it because it is huge and luxurious.
